Public History Faculty

The program relies on faculty members from within the History department (including those who adapt their graduate course offerings to accommodate Public History students' needs) and throughout the UWO community.

  • Michelle A. Hamilton is the Director of Public History. Her interests centre around First Nations history, the history of collecting and museums, cultural identity and methods of repatriation. (Weblog)
  • Michael Dove is the Public History Internship Coordinator. His research interests lie in business and maritime history.
  • Neal Ferris, Department of Anthropology, is interested in applied and public archaeology, and has an extensive background in cultural resource management and working with First Nations.
  • James Flath researches Public History and visual material culture in China.
  • Jason Gilliland, Department of Geography, researches and teaches urban historical geography.
  • Roger Hall is interested in the history and use of photography, and has written extensively for the public. He is also the Editor of the Champlain Society.
  • Alan MacEachern Former Director of the program, and currently the Director of NiCHE: Network in Canadian History & Environment, Professor MacEachern is interested in environmental history and the history of national parks.
  • Shelley McKellar is a medical historian, interested in material culture and technology, and is the curator of the UWO Medical Artifact Collection.
  • Robert MacDougall is interested in digital history, gaming, and the histories of technology and business. (Weblog)
  • Aldona Sendzikas is an American military historian, with a decade of experience working in US naval museums.
  • Donald Spanner is a professional archivist at London Life Archives and professor of archival and media studies.
  • William J. Turkel is interested in environmental and public history, the histories of science and technology, 'big history', STS, computation, and studies of place and social memory. (Wiki)
  • Jonathan Vance is a Canadian cultural historian interested in social memory, and held the former Canada Research Chair in Conflict and Culture.
