For the Community

An essential part of training our Public History students is working with and learning from cultural and historical organizations.

Our summer interns have worked at institutions across North America. During the school year, our program has collaborated with Museum London, Eldon House, Banting House National Historic Site, Fanshawe Pioneer Village, the J.P. Metras Museum, the City of London Planning Department, the London Advisory Committee on Heritage, Parks Canada, and the Museum of Ontario Archaeology, among others. These collaborations range from creating museum exhibits and educational curriculum plans, to conducting heritage research, to writing local history publications. For more, read about our group projects.

Each year, a number of students are also placed in the community as Public History Research Assistants.

Are you a community institution interested in having our students work with your organization on collaborative projects as part of our coursework? Do you wish to host an intern for a summer placement, or hire a graduate? Would you like to help financially support our internship program? Are you an alumnus looking to give back to the program? If you would like to discuss any of these opportunities, please contact Michelle A. Hamilton, Director of Public History, at mhamilt3@uwo.ca or 519-611-2111 ext. 84973.

Some projects could be supported by the new Community Service Learning grants, established by UWO's Student Success Centre. Click here for more information about how your organization may qualify and apply for such a grant.
