Undergraduate Studies

Welcome to the Department of History at The University of Western Ontario. As undergraduate chair, I will be advising you about program requirements and course selection. Here in the Department of History my colleagues and I work to understand the present by exploring and analyzing the past. Our undergraduates share this endeavor in lecture courses, tutorials and seminars in Canadian, American and European history, but also in an expanding range of courses in Asian and Latin American history and the history of the Muslim world. Other courses address thematic issues such as environmental, political, military and women’s history and the history of medicine, of technology and of business. In these courses, students in our programs develop their abilities in writing, speaking, argumentation and analysis as they consider the central issue of change over time and the ways in which gender, class and race have shaped the experience of people in past times. Someone once said that we are all made by history. Our goal in UWO’s History department is to help our students discover something about what they are made of and to equip them with a better understanding of the world in which we live and work. I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Margaret McGlynn,  Associate Professor & Undergraduate Chair
