BOWMAN, Frederick Allison , b. 29 Oct. 1863, Windsor, NS; d. 14 Nov. 1945, Halifax. Son of the Reverend Charles and Annie Bowman, he was graduated with a Master of Arts degree from King's College, Windsor in 1887, and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in 1888. He spent his career (1900-1945) as a staff engineer with the Maritime Telegraph Company in Halifax, pioneering communications technology in the Maritimes. In 1887, he joined the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers (Engineering Institute of Canada, 1918), served for many years on its council, was elected vice-president in 1924 and 1925, and was active in the EIC's Halifax branch. He was a member of the Commercial Club, Halifax. An Anglican, he married Elizabeth Grove and they had two sons and a daughter.
