Why take a graduate degree in History at Western? Western is home to one of the top history departments in Canada. Our faculty are dynamic instructors, expert research and public historians, and dedicated members of a vibrant intellectual community. Our graduate program specializes in training students to become experts in

  • Canadian History
  • U.S. History
  • Digital History
  • International and Transnational History
  • Public History and Memory 

Students can pursue a Master's degree in History or Public History, as well as a J.D/M.A, and there are options for one-year (cognate) and two-year (thesis) programs. Advanced students can pursue a PhD in History. Collaborative programs on campus support a variety of interdisciplinary opportunities. Program Information

Canadian graduate students (MA and PhD) receive funding and the opportunity to develop their pedagogical skills as teaching assistants. Select international students are also eligible for funding. Financial Information
