Kara is responsible for the efficiency of the Graduate Program and serves as a resource person for the Graduate Chair, Graduate Committee, as well as for the Department, University and all external contacts. The administrative duties of the GPA include inquiries, admission procedures, internal, external awards and scholarships. Kara maintains all of the Masters and Doctoral student records, financial administration of application fees, Graduate Teaching Assistantship funding and submission of grades, course enrollment, organizing M.A. and Ph.D. Thesis Oral and Comprehensive Examinations.If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Kara by e-mail or phone.

Rebecca Hicks

Rebecca is responsible for advising students in the History program by e-mail, phone, or in-person appointments. She provides information regarding eligibility, course selections, program planning, prerequisites, substitutions, antirequisites, exam conflicts, and appeals. She also coordinates the add/drop activities for the department. Rebecca acts as the liaison and resource person for students, faculty, or other units regarding department policy and Senate regulations.

Rebecca joined Western in 2014. She worked in Western Libraries and is now with the Department of History.


Shaelyn Ryan

Shaelyn is responsible for maintaining and updating The Medical Artifact Collection housed in Lawson Hall. She is working on cataloguing, reorganizing, conserving, photographing, and researching the collection, as well as writing policies, creating exhibits and social media content, conducting oral histories, and presenting and publishing research.

Shaelyn is at Western for this coming year, arriving from Kingston where she completed a master's degree in history at Queen's University, specializing in disability history in Canadian museums and archives. While a student, she worked for five years as a collections technician and museum assistant at the Museum of Health Care at Kingston.
