Livestock Thrives
'Livestock Thrives'
Yangjiabu, Shandong
46 x 34 cm
reprint of ca. 1950s
Following the communist revolution and the reformation of the nianhua industry, children continued to be popular subjects of representation, although now updated to reflect appropriate socialist themes. No more 'seeking wealth' or 'reaching for the crown'; in this example the children play with toy animals and a banner reading 'Six domestic animals thrive', which suggests a new emphasis on improving livestock.
