Guan Yu, or ‘Lord Guan’, was a central character in the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms and has played a central role in Chinese culture as the ultimate model of loyalty and bravery. Guan Yu can be easily recognized by his red face, beard and halberd (a type of broadsword).
